Potomac River
Good
days run. We left at the sunrise and anchored just before
the sunset clearing some 70 nautical miles. I think this was
the most sailing we did in one day. We had very good winds,
in fact there was small craft warning in the effect because
of the high winds in upper twenties. In the morning we had
to deeply reef our sails since it was so gusty. We were very
proud of ourselves seeing that no other boats ventured out
this morning except the Coast Guard vessel keeping us company
from time to time. So we felt like the men until around Annapolis
we saw a huge regatta in progress with some 60+ boats under
full sail. The we felt like boys again, shook our reefs and
carried on enjoying our little adventure.
We
were having some problems locating an anchorage we selected
for tonight from some sailing guide. Our charts didn't cover
southern part of the bay and our GPS would point us to the
location in the straight line which sometimes can lead to
a little surprise. A little surprise was that GPS was showing
our anchorage some 5 miles into the land and to get there
we realized would take some good detour around the mouth of
the river which was some few hours which we didn't have.
We end up finding semi-protected area near the US Navy airport
which was quite busy that night. We were very close to Washington
DC.
